The Wurzels to play Glastonbury Abbey

Somerset legends, The Wurzels, are to rock Glastonbury Abbey with a fund-raising gig to help the Rescue Our Ruins Appeal.

And tickets have gone on sale today – December 7– perfect for Christmas presents, says events coordinator James Stone.

The Wurzels, whose hits include Combine Harvester, Cider Drinker and Morning Glory, will be playing at the Abbey on June 14 2013.

Wurzel Tommy Banner said: “Glastonbury Abbey is part of our heritage and a Somerset landmark. It is a beautiful setting.

James said: “We’re delighted to have The Wurzels playing at the Abbey and for the band to be backing the appeal.

“All profits from the gig will be for the fund-raising which is for vital conservation work for the Abbot’s Kitchen, Lady Chapel, Crypt and Galilee and the North Wall.”

Janet Bell, acting director at the Abbey, said: “We are planning a number of specific fund-raisers for the appeal during 2013 and this is our first one to go on sale.

“We are sure it will be a great night out and it is wonderful to have Somerset legends supporting Somerset's heritage in this way.”

Tickets cost £12 in advance, £15 on the gate with a discount of £2 off these tickets for full members of the newly launched Membership Scheme, Friends of Glastonbury Abbey.

They can be bought at the Abbey Shop.
